What this cable is
Low-voltage multiconductor cable from the Anixter Security / Alarm / Access Control / Sound, Non-Shielded Plenum family. Stranded bare copper conductors (19 strands), flame-retardant PVC (FRPVC) insulation and jacket, white jacket, no shield. UL Listed Type CMP (16 AWG) and CL3P (14 AWG) per NEC Articles 725 and 800, suitable for plenum spaces.
Direct equivalent of Belden 6100UE (14 AWG) and Belden 6200UE / General Cable E3042S (16 AWG), per Anixter's cross-reference.

Why it works for the DALI bus
The DALI bus (IEC 62386-101) is a polarity-free two-wire line at 1200 baud with Manchester encoding. The standard requires neither a shield nor a twisted pair, and limits the bus to 984 ft of total length with a maximum 2 V drop between the bus power supply and the farthest point at up to 250 mA. That gives an allowable loop resistance of 8 Ω:

Actual bus load is usually well below 250 mA (2 mA per DALI control gear plus the control devices), so 16 AWG covers almost any installation. 14 AWG is reserved for long runs at full load or to keep the spec to a single part number.
Condition of use: Class 2 installation
The DALI bus is not SELV. This cable (CL3P / CMP, 300 V) is valid when the bus is installed as a Class 2 circuit per NEC 725: UL Listed Class 2 bus power supply, and DALI terminals on every driver rated for Class 2 connection. In that case the cable runs separate from the power conductors.
If any driver or power supply in the project classifies its DALI connection as Class 1, the whole bus becomes Class 1 and must be wired with 600 V conductors (THHN / THWN in raceway, or MC cable with integral control conductors). This cable does not apply in that case.
How to specify and install it
- Unshielded. A shield adds nothing to the DALI bus and avoids a drain wire inside the luminaires.
- Plenum (CL3P / CMP) wherever the route passes through drop ceilings used as return-air plenums.
- Identification. White jacket as standard. To tell the DALI bus apart from 0-10V and other low-voltage wiring, label both ends.
- Termination. 19-strand conductors, compatible with the push-in and screw terminals on DALI drivers and power supplies (typical range 12 to 18 AWG).
